The designation as a regional venue for the upcoming four years is a fantastic recognition of ALICE’s work and a testament to the need for ALICE as Denmark’s leading promoter of diversity in rhythmic music. Thank you to the Danish Arts Foundation’s Project Support Committee for Music, which not only took new approaches by allowing venues to showcase their unique profiles in the application process but also for placing their trust in a couple of venues with an artistic approach to their profile, where bold programming is the key.
“ALICE is one of the country’s venues with particularly bold programming,” states the Danish Arts Foundation’s Project Support Committee for Music. Therefore, ALICE has been awarded support to continue as a regional venue in the period 2025-28.
This ensures that audiences can continue to experience deep traditions from around the world as well as new, boundary-breaking music across diversity and genres, which is otherwise hard to find on other stages in the country. All this in Nørrebro, Copenhagen, Denmark’s most densely populated area.
“I am particularly proud that we have managed to convince the Project Committee that ALICE has an important place in the Danish music landscape so that we can continue our journey with renewed vigor towards the unique musical experiences that are ALICE’s DNA. And this in completely newly renovated premises from September 6 this year,” says HC Gimbel, head of ALICE.
“There is great enthusiasm in the committee for the designation of the regional venues. We have given the venues more freedom in the application process, and they have responded with applications of a high ambition level, which bodes well for the venue area in the coming years. The new designation should highlight the regional venues’ significant efforts for the Danish music environment. The hope is that they will lead the development and thereby inspire broadly within the industry,” states Rikke Øxner, committee leader of the Danish Arts Foundation’s Project Support Committee for Music.
About Regional Venues
Regional venues should appear and operate as dynamic and competent powerhouses that, based on diversity and renewal, convey, present, profile, and develop rhythmic music of high artistic quality throughout the country. Regional venues are designated for four years at a time based on the venue’s strategy and an application to the Danish Arts Foundation’s Project Support Committee for Music. It is a prerequisite that the venue receives substantial municipal funding for music operations. Read more here.
