NOTE: Due to high demand, the concert has been moved from ALICE to Copenhagen Distillery, Kløvermarksvej 70D, 2300 Copenhagen. This change allows us to release additional tickets for the previously sold-out concert.
For top-notch Balkan brass music, you can’t get much better than Fanfare Ciocarlia. The 12-man orchestra can rightfully be called legends, who even celebrated their 25th anniversary in 2022 with a thunderously sold-out concert at ALICE. Fanfare Ciocarlia emerged from a small village in the Romanian part of Moldavia, but from the start, they had grand ambitions to spread local music to the world, and their music has indeed become a global phenomenon. They’ve contributed to the soundtrack of the latest “Borat” movie, performed at the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony, and won numerous awards, with their rich brass riffs being sampled extensively by electronic artists. Furthermore, their music has echoed from speakers at almost every self-respecting Balkan party for many years.
Fanfare Ciocarlia most recently released the album “It Wasn’t Hard to Love You” (2021) – a love letter to their fans after 25 years on the road. Listen to the album as an infectious warm-up to the concert with this fantastic orchestra, which has refined their Moldavian interpretation of the fiery big band music known from various regions of the Balkans, historically emerging at the intersection of Turkish music, Austro-Hungarian march music, and local traditions. It’s going to be a party, so lace up your shoes!
