The Amsterdam-based sextet Nusantara Beat has quickly become a must-see act at festivals and venues throughout Europe. With their unique new take on Indonesian music, where Balinese compositions from the 20th century are reinterpreted in encounters with 60s surf, synths, and enigmatic vocal harmonies, the band demonstrates a love and dedication to their musical roots and cultural heritage while insisting on showcasing the diversity of Indonesian music and lifting it into the future in a respectful, fresh, and catchy way.
Nusantara Beat consists of members from Jungle By Night, POM, The Mysterons, Altin Gün, Surf Aid-Kit, and EUT, all of whom are 1st, 2nd, or 3rd generation Dutch-Indonesians, rediscovering and exploring their roots through music.
Nusantara Beat recorded their first single on FIP Radio, and Lumanai Records and Les Disques Bongo Joe have supported the band’s first release ever, the EP “Djanger / Borondong Garing”, which is nothing short of a wonderful introduction to their sound. Nusantara Beat has played at festivals such as Beaches Brew, Dekmantel, Lowlands, and Le Guess Who. Now they are ready to take over ALICE in May!
