CPH:DOX: GAIKA UK + Phantom Parrot (film screening) + Delish Da Goddess US

Futuristic grime rap, Louisiana rapper and surveillance documentary film screening

Born out of his travels through the many global currents of contemporary London, GAIKA’s music is dark yet melodic, experimental yet catchy. While drawing strongly from his Brixton upbringing and his Jamaican and Grenadian heritage, GAIKA’s sound is ultimately expansive, seamlessly weaving musical motifs, vocal flows and slangs of UK, US and Caribbean music.

As both a vocalist and producer, GAIKA is as uncompromising in his politics as his sonics, intent on expanding and exploding the ideas of what contemporary black british music is. From his debut mixtape Machine in 2015 all the way to his debut LP on Warp Records Basic Volume, GAIKA is channeling the unique synthesis of the UK’s musical make-up, firmly at the forefront of a new London.

Delish Da Goddess:

To beats that mix bounce and trap, Louisiana rapper Delish Da Goddess puts herself in a ruling position as the uncrowned leader of New Orleans’ queer bounce scene. With stern radiance, a carnevalesque attitude and soulful screaming, Delish Da Goddess is famous for her wildly energetic and highly physical live shows.

Born and raised just southeast of New Orleans, Delish Da Goddess is considered one of the Big Easy’s best kept secrets. With 7 EPs under her belt and a nonpareil performance style, she has been a steady source of creative energy and inspiration for Louisiana’s Hip Hop scene, affording her the Best Rap and Bounce award at 2018’s Big Easy Awards.

It was especially her 7th, and to date most cohesive EP, “Violet”, that put her on the broader map. In the meantime she has been featured in Diplo’s Blow Your Head series, TNT’s TV series Claws and performed with the likes of Peaches, Le1f, Big Freedia and SOPHIE.

January 29th 2020 saw the release of “Bye America”. The video heavily focuses on three lost black girls being stuck in a place where they won’t be accepted but find ways to maintain the life they want to live and teach each other. All you need is a few people in your corner to survive.

Said of Delish Da Goddess:
“She’s the consummate crowd pleaser … she puts her body and soul on full display and holds audiences in awe of her raw energy, putting on one of the best shows in a town saturated with live music. She gets her crowds moving and then hits them with jarringly upfront bars, infusing lo-fi trap beats with the energy of the queer bounce movement that put New Orleans hip-hop back on the map post-Wayne. The immediacy of Delish’s physical presence and her in-your-face, Gulf South hustle and flow demand attention and respect.” (The Fader)
