Band descriptions:

Apartment House (UK) perform Julius Eastman’s ‘Femenine’
The great contemporary music ensemble, Apartment House, performs the great American composer, Julius Eastman, who has undergone a long overdue and much deserved popular and critical reappraisal nearly three decades after his premature death in 1990. Femenine is an open instrumental score, existing only as a fragmentary and elusive sketchy score in Eastman’s hand. Lasting over 60 minutes, and propelled by the sound of sleigh bells and an insistent, yet compelling riff, the piece is hypnotic, chaotic, transcendental, alarming and ecstatic, exemplifying Eastman’s own maximal minimalism. Written in 1974 it has been given new life by Apartment House.

Księżyc (PL)
The name Księżyc (Polish for ‘moon’) conjures up an atmosphere of nightly rituals, witchcraft and mystique which seems highly fitting for this Polish gem of eerie psych folk. A true cult act, the group came into existence in the early 90s, released a self titled masterpiece and then faded into obscurity. They returned in 2013 and have since then played a row of successful shows at some of the world’s main festivals – including Roskilde Festival in 2017. Expect an otherworldly blend of old Slavic folk music, ambient, minimalism and and vocal experiments of the 20th Century – and a mesmerizing live show – when the group plays a rare Copenhagen show at Sankt Johannes Church.

Lightning Bolt (US)
“After 25 years in the game, they remain one of the world’s greatest live bands.” The words from The Guardian pretty much sums it up, but people who attended their show at Jazzhouse in 2015 might add that they’re also one of the loudest! American duo Lightning Bolt are once again ready to wreak havoc over Copenhagen with their sonic assault of bass and drums. Lightning Bolt are known for their high energy shows mixing noise rock, metal, improv and hardcore in a musical grinder. They recently marked their 25 year anniversary with the critically acclaimed album ‘Sonic Citadel’ (Thrill Jockey). Don’t forget your earplugs when they take Spectacle by storm!

RP Boo (US)
RP Boo – a.k.a. Kavain Space – is a man who is revered and respected amongst the dance music cognoscenti. He’s cited as one of the originators of Footwork, the fast, repetitive, rhythmically syncopated music and dance style that’s a grandchild of Chicago house and which has been brought to the wider world via releases from record label Planet Mu and others, alongside internet archaeology from fans, experts and enthusiasts. Produced using a Roland R-70 drum machine and an Akai S01 digital sampler, RP Boo’s tracks are filled with banging beats, hectic high hats, bass and mosaics of samples that make you wanna dance.
