As a consequence of the widespread situation with Corona virus/COVID-19, Chouk Bwa & The Ångstromers has sadly been forced to cancel their Spring tour. This means that their concert at ALICE on May 7th is cancelled. All purchased tickets will be refunded via Billetto. For now, we are working on new dates for as many concerts as possible. Please stay tuned on updates about ALICE and the Corona virus situation here.
Please Note: The ticket for this concert also counts for the concert with Charlemagne Palestine, Oren Ambarchi & Eric Thielemans, who will perform on the same night at 7.30pm at Sankt Johannes Gården, Nørre Allé 2B. More info here.
In 2016 Haitian vodou band Chouk Bwa met the Brussels based duo The Ångstromers. The project combines a new dub sensitivity with Haitian rhythm science and spirituality, and will bring hearty grooves to Nørrebro this Spring.
Modular synths and other vintage electronic instruments bring another dimension to Chouk Bwa’s music, although obviously it is always the band’s groove and fluent tempo that leads the energy of the ensemble: no laptops, no drum machines. There are certain freedoms that cannot be coerced. Even more, the electronic instruments are wired directly to the drums that feed them with impacts and caresses. All the Vodou families are there with their many rhythms and songs. Radical Vodou roots for urban audiences.
This new ensemble has performed in 2018 at Siestes Electroniques (Toulouse, FR), Eastern Daze (Gent, BE), Explore the North (Leeuwarden, NL) and in 2019 at Trans Musicales de Rennes among other gigs. On April 24 the group will release a new album on Bongo Joe Records. Chouk Bwa Libète played at Global in 2016, and we are happy to present him this Spring in the new project with the Ångstromers.
